Ionik Health vs Hevy: coach or tracker?
Updated 10 July 2026
The one sentence version: Hevy is the best pure workout tracker on either store, with a generous free tier, and it records the plan you bring; Ionik Health writes the plan for you, rebuilds it every week from what you log, and gives you a coach to question. They are different categories, not rivals.
We build Ionik Health, so read this with that in mind. Where Hevy is the better choice, this page says so.
| App | Best for | Pricing | AI coach chat | Weekly auto replanning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ionik HealthOurs | An adaptive weekly plan plus a coach you can talk to |

| Hevy | Logging workouts you programme yourself |

Prices are the published store prices at the update date on this page and can vary by region and promotions. Ionik Health is our app; see the disclosure above.
Where Hevy is better
- Logging experience. The cleanest, fastest workout log on either store, with 4.9 stars on iOS and a big, active community.
- Price and free tier. A genuinely usable free tier, and the cheapest paid upgrade here at $2.99 per month, plus a lifetime option.
- You already have a plan. If you know how to program and progress your own training, Hevy plus your own spreadsheet is a great, honest combination.
Where Ionik Health is better
- It writes and progresses the plan. Ionik Health programmes your week around your gym, goal, and schedule, then rewrites it from your logged sets. Hevy does none of this.
- A coach you can question. Ask why an exercise is there, swap it, or say you only have 40 minutes; the plan responds.
- Life happens handling. Missed days slide the week forward instead of piling up, and an overloaded week rebalances in a tap.
Which should you pick?
Pick Hevy if you already know how to program your training and want the best, cheapest place to log it. Pick Ionik Health if you want the plan built, progressed, and adapted for you by a coach you can talk to.
The honest test: if you have ever stared at a blank log wondering what to do today, that is the gap Ionik Health fills and Hevy does not. Both let you try before you pay.
Common questions
Is Hevy free?
Yes, Hevy has a genuinely usable free tier with unlimited logging, and Hevy Pro is $2.99 per month, $23.99 per year, or $74.99 lifetime. It is the cheapest option here by a wide margin. The catch is that it does not build or progress a plan for you.
Does Hevy have an AI coach?
No. Hevy is a workout tracker, not a coach. It records the training you already know how to program. Ionik Health is the opposite: the coach writes your week, adapts it from what you log, and answers when you ask why.
Which is better for beginners?
Ionik Health, for most. Hevy assumes you can design and progress your own programme, which beginners usually cannot yet. Ionik Health builds the plan, starts conservatively, and explains its choices.
Can I use Hevy to log a plan and Ionik Health to write it?
You could, but you would be paying twice and losing the loop. The point of Ionik Health is that logging and planning are one system: what you log in the app is exactly what rewrites next week. Splitting them breaks that.
